ECF4CLIM highlights its achievements at International Workshop in Lisbon. Participants explored the project’s innovative framework, roadmap, participatory methodology and educational tools for fostering sustainability competences across Europe
On 6 May 2026, researchers, educators, students and sustainability practitioners gathered at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa) for the workshop “Sustainability Competences for Climate Action: From Theory to Educational Practice – The ECF4CLIM Project.”
Hosted by the SHIFT research group, the event brought together participants from across Europe to discuss how education can support climate action and sustainability transitions. The workshop showcased the main achievements of the Horizon Europe project ECF4CLIM, coordinated by CIEMAT, and provided an opportunity to reflect on the role of sustainability competences in addressing today’s socio-ecological challenges.
Participants explored the project’s key results, including the ECF4CLIM Sustainability Competence Framework, the Sustainability Competence Roadmap, the participatory hybrid methodology, a catalogue of sustainability interventions implemented in schools and universities, and a range of digital tools and educational resources developed during the project.
The event also featured practical examples from Portuguese educational institutions and interactive activities that demonstrated how participatory approaches can foster meaningful learning and engagement for sustainability.
The workshop highlighted the importance of moving beyond individual behaviour change and promoting collective, organisational and techno-material competences to support long-term sustainability transformations in education.
